Instructions:
  1. Read: Aschengrau and Seage, ch. 6 - Overview of Epidemiologic Study Designs, and ch. 7 - Experimental Studies

  2. Read the lecture slides and attend the lecture (if you cannot attend the lecture, the slides have verbatim speaker notes; there are also recorded audio tutorials, but these are not as up-to-date as the speaker notes).

  3. Read “The Revised CONSORT Statement for Reporting Randomized Trials: Explanation and Elaboration“ (Ann Intern Med 2001;134:663-694) abstract, full text and PDF) and visit the CONSORT web site

  4. Read John M. Colford, Jr., Timothy J. Wade, Sukhminder K. Sandhu, Catherine C. Wright, et al. A randomized, controlled trial of in-home drinking water intervention to reduce gastrointestinal illness. American Journal of Epidemiology 2005;161(5):472-482. (abstract, full text)

  5. Answer (all of) the case study questions. Write succinct answers that include a brief explanation or statement of support.

  6. (Optional, but earns credit) Submit the answers to the starred case study questions (numbers 1, 2, 4, 6, and 9 - see the class schedule for due date).

  7. Discuss the answers to (all of) the case study questions with your small group.

  8. Agree on the answers (including the brief explanation or statement of support), so the facilitator can submit the group’s consensus answers (for all questions) by the date indicated in the class schedule.
